National Bed Bug Awareness Month is an educational campaign designed to educate people on the bed bug problem facing this country. The event is organized by BedBug Central and serves as a comprehensive response to the continued spread of bed bugs throughout the country. "The initial lack of public education and awareness enabled bed bugs to spread and become a major problem in the United States," said Rich Cooper, research entomologist and doctoral candidate of Rutgers University. "Although awareness that bed bugs exist has vastly improved, education has not. There are still myths and misconceptions that allow bed bugs to continue to spread. Without proper education, prevention is not accomplished and the spread is not stemmed."
The month long event kicks off with the launch of an interactive online tutorial series and culminates with the North American Bed Bug Summit being held in Chicago from September 25-27 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. USBedBugs.com is the Platinum sponsor of the North American Bed Bug Summit.
Videos will be released throughout the month of September along with articles and interviews with top entomologists in the U.S. Robert Dold, U.S. Representative of IL, will also provide interviews on the government's role in combating bed bugs.
The North American Bed Bug Summit will bring together 26 of the leading entomologists and bug experts from around the world together with representatives from affected industries. The Summit will also demonstrate over 70 of the latest bed bug technology including all natural bed bug sprays, Protect-a-Bed mattress encasements and BugZip Luggage Protectors.
